About

15+ years of IT experience across event management, observability, infrastructure automation, and cloud platforms. My work has focused on building reliable monitoring systems, automating infrastructure, and connecting observability with ITSM workflows — with deep hands-on experience in event enrichment, correlation, noise reduction, alert tuning, and helping operations teams turn monitoring data into practical day-to-day improvements.

Experience

Senior DevOps Engineer

Canadian Tire Corporation, Toronto, ON · Mar 2021 – Present

Technical lead for a platform engineering squad — defining standards, reviewing designs, mentoring engineers, and keeping delivery moving across cloud and DevOps work. Time split between architecture and standards, team development, and hands-on engineering with Terraform, Python, and platform automation.

  • Observability instrumentation standards — built Terraform modules so the Monitoring team could configure New Relic dashboards and alerts at scale without the UI, plus Docker image standards with the New Relic agent pre-installed for consistent monitoring out of the box.
  • Secret expiry automation — connected Key Vault, Event Grid, a Logic App, Netcool, ServiceNow, Teams, and email to eliminate P1 incidents from expired service principal secrets, giving SRE 30 days' notice ahead of expiry.
  • Log and metrics forwarding — routed diagnostic settings to Event Hub and on to New Relic via a Function App, cutting Log Analytics from 20% to 5% of the Azure bill.
  • Standards adoption — designed the team's Git workflow, built the proof-of-concept pipeline and reusable CI/CD templates, documented governance, and trained the team on the new process.

Senior Technical Specialist

Canadian Tire Corporation, Toronto, ON · Aug 2018 – Mar 2021

Enterprise event management across a large-scale hybrid environment — event enrichment, correlation, and alert management with IBM Netcool Omnibus, Impact policies, probes, gateways, and ITNM. Mentored 5 engineers and supported the platform from initial install through upgrades and daily operations.

  • Event enrichment & normalization — Impact policies adding business context (store, location, business unit) to raw events, feeding dashboards, deduplication, and ServiceNow incident routing.
  • Alert correlation, deduplication & noise reduction — correlation and threshold tuning to cut false positives, event storm detection to drop duplicate root-cause alerts, and Rundeck automation for on-call-free maintenance suppression.
  • Severity mapping & incident creation — Netcool ↔ ServiceNow integration so enriched alerts opened incidents and ServiceNow clear signals closed them back out.
  • Operational & executive dashboards — proactive alert monitoring for operations, plus SLA and incident-trend views for leadership.

A multi-repo Azure landing zone built solo as a home lab: a custom Terraform module registry with its own publishing pipeline, Azure DevOps CI/CD templates shared across every app and module repo, and Entra ID sign-in with zero stored secrets — a user-assigned managed identity acts as a federated credential for the app registration, so the confidential-client auth flow needs no client secret at all.
